SPECIAL
CARE UNIT
The Special Care Unit is a 6-bed inpatient unit
which provides acute care services for the critically
ill patient. Those admitted to SCU require treatment
for shock states, trauma, MI's, unstable angina,
mechanical ventilation, psychiatry, and pediatric
conditions such as seizures, respiratory states
and dehydration.
All staff are certified in BLS, PALS and ACLS
and trained in electrocardioversion, temporary
pacemakers, use of nitrates, thrombolytic therapies,
oximetry monitoring, and cardiac arrest response.
SCU provides high standards of care with the
utmost regard to patient safety and comfort. Individualized
plans of care are provided with respect for patient
privacy and confidentiality.
The Special Care Unit uses state-of-the-art ventilators,
code carts and hemodynamic monitoring equipment.
In August, 2002, we purchased a Marquette monitoring
systemthe newest, updated central station
bedside monitorsand eight telemetry units.
